French actress Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) has joined the cast of James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2.’ Deadline reports that Klementieff will be playing Mantis.
Mantis made her first appearance in 1973’s Avengers #112, and created by Steve Englehart and Don Heck. Mantis is the half-Vietnamese, half-German daughter of the antihero Libra, and a martial arts expert with psychic abilities and ties to the alien Kree race.

Returning: Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu) and Sean Gunn (Kraglin).
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2’ is set to open in theaters on May 5, 2017.
The very first Avengers comic I remember reading, some random comic that I picked up at a 7-11’s circular comic rack, featured the Avengers fighting a dangerous alien who had once been defeated by a pacifist sect of the Kree. Libra was with the Avengers (but I didn’t know he was a villain with the Zodiac and he was just kind of helping the Avengers because Mantis was on the team with them.)
I had no idea what was going on, but I really, really liked reading it. So hearing that they’re bringing Mantis into the MCU gets a big thumbs up for me.

I’m glad to hear that. Yeah, I don’t remember much about Mantis. I have a lot of rereading to do.
