Legendary voice-over artist Hal Douglas has died at the age of 89. The New York Times reported that Douglas died on Friday, March 7th, in his home in Lovettsville, Va. His daughter, Sarah Douglas, said he passed away due to complications from pancreatic cancer.
Douglas was known for his booming baritone voice to moviegoers and TV watchers. He was one of three major movie trailer voice-over artist, along with Don LaFontaine, who died in 2008, and Don Morrow, who voiced the ‘Titanic’ trailer.
“I’m not outstanding in any way. It’s a craft that you learn, like making a good pair of shoes. And I just consider myself a good shoemaker.” he told The New York Times in 2009.
Notable trailers Douglas narrated were “Lethal Weapon,” “Forrest Gump,” “Philadelphia,” “Con Air,” “Men in Black,” and many more. Douglas also appeared on-camera for Jerry Seinfeld’s 2002 documentary “Comedian.”
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Francis Douglas, and his three children.
