The wait is finally over! “The Mountain and The Viper” airs this Sunday. Check out the latest stills and what Pedro Pascal has to say about this Sunday’s episode.
In an interview with TV Guide, actor Pedro Pascal, who plays Oberyn Martell, discusses the combat scene against Gregor Clegane (The Mountain), played by Hafthor Bjornsson. Pascal told TV Guide, “He’s 6-foot-9; I’m 5-foot-11. I think he’s nearly three times my weight. He’s 420 pounds of muscle. It felt like I was with a giant. And then put him in the armor, and his sword alone was exactly my height. It was incredibly intimidating but also really delightful because I think that the character Oberyn really relishes that kind of challenge.”
Pascal talks about Oberyn’s agenda: “Oberyn is not a fan of the Lannisters, so it’s not very hard for him to see through the trial and recognize what’s really going on. And while he has his own agenda, because he wants nothing but to face The Mountain himself and kill him, to be able to do that on behalf of Tyrion is an extra ‘f— you’ to the Lannisters because he recognizes to Tyrion their hypocrisy and their corruption.”
Pascal admitted to Today Online that filming the battle scene was a “very harrowing experience.” He goes on to say ” “We were shooting outside, it’s a pretty large battle and we all wanted to get it right. Nobody got hurt. There were no injuries sustained. There was no heat exhaustion. Everyone was working really hard together and having a great time.”
Pascal reassured fans that they won’t be disappointed with this Sunday’s episode: “I would say that fans of the books who are fans of the show have never been dissatisfied over any of the major events.”
