The Artful by Wilbert Stanton
When looking back at the small stack of books that were waiting to be read this week, I couldn’t be happier that I started with The Artful by Wilbert Stanton.
This suspenseful and intriguing story takes place in post-apocalypitc New York, year 2025, after a virus further divides the social classes of it’s citizens. The wealthy continue live comfortably having access to shelter/food/medication etc. while the not so weathly are forced to fend for themselves.
Twist, Dodger and Smith, a brave (and possibly crazy) group of lads from the less fortunate population, Gutter Punks, take it upon themselves to raid the wealthy towers and bring the loot back to the poor.
This may sound like a Robin Hood tale, but let me warn you that it is more Ridley Scott than Disney, as one of their raids gets them pursued by the most dangerous. The situations these guys find themselves in are graphic and there is adult language but, to me, it didn’t take away from the overwhelming theme of loyalty amongst friends.
I found this a quick and very entertaining read with moments of intensity right where there should be.
Thanks to Curiosity Quills for a review copy of this book
Happy Reading 🙂
