Ewan McGregor is in final negotiations to play Lumiere in Disney’s live-action musical adaptation of ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The 44-year-old Scottish actor is no stranger to musicals, he’s starred in ‘Moulin Rouge’ and the stage production of ‘Guys and Dolls.’
McGregor will star opposite Emma Watson as Belle, Luke Evan as the boorishly handsome Gaston, Dan Stevens as the Beast/Prince, Josh Gad as LeFou, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Audra McDonald as Garderobe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, and Kevin Kline as Belle’s father, Maurice.

Eight-time Oscar-winner Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards for the 1991 animated classic, will score the film, which will feature new recordings of the original songs in addition to several new songs written by Menken and Sir Tim Rice.
According to Disney, “The beloved tale will be retold for the big screen with a modern live-action lens and the help of transformative CG magic.”
Directed by Bill Condon. Produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films. Script written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and rewritten by Steve Chbosky.
‘Beauty and the Beast’ hits theaters on March 17, 2017.
