Deadline reports that NBC is developing an hour-long series based on the ‘RED’ movie franchise, which starred Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker and Karl Urban.

Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber, who wrote the 2010 hit and its 2013 sequel, will executive produce along with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian. The TV series version “will retain the core concept of the films but will be set in a more grounded and authentic world, focusing on the characters’ darkly hilarious struggles to survive civilian life as they simultaneously fight for and against the very organization that threw them out.”

Based on Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner’s three-issue mini-series, the films followed a group of CIA operatives who have been classified as “RED” (Retired Extremely Dangerous), but find themselves forced back into action when the agency that employed them sends an assassin after one of them.

No word on casting.

I love both films, and I’m looking forward to the series. How about you guys?
