According to Variety, Universal and Working Title have cast Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Carrie) to play the title character in the live-action retelling of ‘The Little Mermaid.’ 

Screenwriter Richard Curtis (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Love Actually) is in talks to pen the final script “based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale centering on a mermaid who gives up her life in the sea after she falls in love with a prince,” according to THR.

The film currently does not have a director. Back in June, Sophia Coppola departed the project over creative differences.

Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing while Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger will executive produce. Executive VP of Production Erik Baiers and creative executive Chloe Yellin are overseeing the project for Universal.
