Think back for a moment to a time when you were a wide eyed child. Go back far enough that the first thing you thought about being and doing was something you actually believed that you could and would do. Remember that childlike faith and confidence that you were unstoppable.

For Eddie Edwards the first thing he wanted to be was an Olympian and no matter what he faced, he would not stop until that happened.

Eddie the Eagle follows the journey of Eddie Edwards from that wide eyed child all the way to the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.

The film stars Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) who both make a departure from the characters they most recently played to bring Eddie (Egerton) and Eddie’s coach and former Olympian Bronson (Jackman) to the big screen.

Eddie, a less than eligible Olympic hopeful, meets Bronson on his way to become the first Olympic Ski Jump participant Great Britain has seen in decades. The trouble is, Eddie has never Ski Jumped. After watching Eddie crash, burn and repeat, Bronson agrees to help Eddie stick a landing so that he doesn’t break his neck.

What follows is a tale filled with hard work, determination in the face of failure, laughter, tears and a string of personal bests. Against almost every odd you can imagine (including a sometimes unsupportive father) Eddie picks his self up and keeps going toward his Olympic dream.

Through the course of the story, set to a stellar 80’s soundtrack, Eddie’s focus and enthusiasm become contagious, leading to an unlikely friendship and the re-awakening of life.

Eddie the Eagle is the perfect combination of encouragement, thrills, laughter and tears (ok, maybe not everyone will cry but I did). The common theme of working hard to achieve ones dreams no matter who/what may try to stand in the way is inspiring. This incredible story of one mans unshakable determination is brilliantly told via Egerton and Jackman who transformed themselves from roles they are best known for into something totally different, solidifying their versatility as actors.

This movie is for everyone who has ever felt like the odds where stacked against them but didn’t let their dream go. It’s a movie for people who have gotten knocked down and gotten back up. Also, it’s for everyone who is down and needs encouragement. It is for the the dreamers, underdogs, believers and flyers.
