To celebrate the release of Season 3 Blu-Ray and DVD on February 17th, HBO and ‘Game of Thrones’ teamed up with UK chocolatier Choccywoccydoodah to create this incredible cake, based on the most shocking episode in Season 3.
We decided to create a slaughtered cake, rather than a red cake, giving us the opportunity to try new techniques, new sculpting methods and new finishes. The daggers, swords and arrows were all created from chocolate, plunged into the cake and chocolate, revealing weeping bloody wounds.
We also included a cracked shield of the two families in the episode; House of Stark and House of Frey to symbolise the fact they are now at war. Four key team members of our cake team worked together, taking over 20 hours to create it. The cake is chocolate rum and raisin, enrobed in chocolate, of course! says bakery founder Christine Taylor.
Maisie Williams, aka Arya Stark, was at the unveiling of the cake with a sword in hand, ready to avenge her brother and mother’s death. Well, not really, but she did get to eat some delicious cake.
I have to admit, the cake is impressive, but I really don’t want to relive the “Red Wedding” episode.
‘Game of Thrones’ Season 4 premiers on April 6th at 9pm on HBO.
