5 Fandom Friday: Songs That Changed My Life

fandom.5.friday

It’s 5 Fandom Friday! 5 Fandom Friday, a geeky themed link-up hosted by The Nerdy Girlie and SuperSpaceChick. Today’s topic is: Songs that changed my life.

Music is an integral part of my life. Music is a powerful tool. It is a very effective way of expressing feelings. It makes memories. Music connects the body to the mind. Lyrics to relate to our lives and situations.

Music touches us emotionally where words alone can’t. – Johnny Depp.

My love for music ranges gospel, jazz, blues, latin, world, pop, film scores, classical music, and some rock. I grew up in a Cuban household where music was played at all times. From Cuban jazz, salsa, bachata to merengue, there was always a party at my house. 🙂

Thanks to my mom, I was also introduced to blues and jazz at a young age. Ella Fitzgerald, Della Reese, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, and the list goes on and on.

Listen. Can you hear it? The music. I can hear it everywhere. In the wind… in the air… in the light. It’s all around us. All you have to do is open yourself up. All you have to do… is listen. – August Rush

My dream till this day is to own a small music club. Where musicians can share their music in a more intimate setting with their fans.

I really don’t have “Songs That Changed My Life,” but here are 5 songs that have a significance in my life:

1. A Deeper Faith album by John Tesh

The whole entire album uplifted me during so many times. Each song has helped in my growth in my walk with the Lord. It gives me strength and peace. The cd also got me through the passing of my grandparents.

Here’s one of the songs from the album:

2. Vivir Mi Vida by Marc Anthony

I love this song! Live in the moment because you only have this one life. It’s pretty much my mantra.

“Voy a reír, voy a bailar. ¿Pa’ qué llorar? ¿Pa’ qué sufrir? Empieza a soñar, a reír. Voy a reír, voy a bailar. Siente y baila y goza. Que la vida es una sola. Voy a reír, voy a bailar. Vive, sigue, siempre pa’lante, no mires pa’ atrás.”

“I’m gonna laugh, I’m gonna dance. Why mourn? Why suffer? Start dreaming, laughing. I’m gonna laugh, I’m gonna dance. Feel and dance and enjoy, you only live once. I’m gonna laugh, I’m gonna dance. Live, always keep moving forward, don’t look back.”

3. Star Wars by John Williams

This is where my love for film scores began at a very young age. My iTunes library consists of over 2,000 film scores.

4. What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong

Even though there is hatred and violence in this world, the song is about seeing the beauty around us. To hope for the best.

5. Step By Step by New Kids On The Block

I have to admit. NKOTB was my first boy band crush. I mean, they were and still are adorable. Step By Step, Cover Girl, I’ll Be Loving You (Forever), You Got It (The Right Stuff), and on.

Hope you enjoyed my 5 songs! I have tons more, but 5 it is. 😛
