CBS and DC Entertainment have announced that actress Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) and David Harewood (Homeland) have joined the cast of ‘Supergirl.’
Leigh will play Kara’s foster-sister Alexandra “Alex” Danvers. Fascinated by Kara’s powers from a young age, Alex developed a lifelong obsession with science, which inspired her to become a doctor.
Harwood will play supervillain Hank Henshaw, a onetime CIA agent who now runs the Department of Extra-Normal Operations, which tracks extraterrestrial threats on the planet Earth.
Harewood and Leigh joins Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, and Lauren Benanti as Kara/Alura Zor-El.
Based on the characters from DC Comics, the project, from Warner Bros. TV, studio-based Berlanti Prods. and writers/executive producers Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow) and Ali Adler (Glee, The New Normal), centers on Kara Zor-El (Benoist). Since arriving on Earth, the Krypton-born Kara has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
‘Supergirl’ is expected to premiere later this fall.
