‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ directors Joe and Anthony Russo have signed a three-year first-look deal for feature films with Sony Pictures.
The Russo brothers will begin shooting “Captain America: Civil War” next month and is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2016. The new Spider-Man is reported to make his first appearance in the movie as part of the February 9th deal between Marvel and Sony.
Sony producer Doug Belgrad said in a statement:
“Joe and Anthony Russo are terrifically exciting filmmakers with a sensibility that matches the tastes of audiences worldwide.”
Co-Presidents Michael DeLuca and Hannah Minghella had this to say:
“Joe and Anthony Russo have demonstrated their ability to bring excitement, audacity and phenomenal commercial success to a variety of genres and endeavors, and we are proud to add them to the family. Their original voices and fearless execution are a tremendous addition to our studio.”
The Russo brothers had this to say about the deal:
“We’re thrilled to make a home at Sony Pictures, and to be partnering with the entire team. The studio has created an environment that is not only collaborative, but truly filmmaker-friendly and we’re excited to begin developing both new and ambitious material with them.”
No word on what roles Sony and Marvel might have planned for the Russo brothers. We’ll keep you updated.
