AMC has cast actor Tom Payne (The Physician, Skins) to play Paul Monroe, aka Jesus, the upcoming sixth season of ‘The Walking Dead,’ according to THR. Which mean Negan is coming!!
Payne will join the series in a recurring role for season six, with the option to return in Season 7.
The character was first introduced in issue 91 of the comics. He is a resident at the Alexandria Safe-Zone who moved to the community from another group called the Hilltop Colony. The character is a rare logical man and skilled adviser with a strong sense of morals and values who is well-adapted to the new world.
The character, still alive in the comics, becomes a key member of the group in the comics ahead of the war against The Savors and major villain Negan.
In addition to Payne, actor Xander Berkeley (24, Nikita, Salem) will also be joining the cast in a “top-secret” role, but will not debut until the second half of Season 6.
TVLine reports that Berkeley will not be playing Negan, but will play a character who shares the same characteristics. “Namely his narcissism, huge ego and self-preservation. He’s also said to relish the superiority that comes with being in control, but he plays it off with a car salesman-type charm.”
