Actor/comedian Steve Zahn (Treme, Dallas Buyers Club, Captain Fantastic) has joined the cast of Matt Reeves upcoming ‘War for the Planet of the Apes.’ According to The Wrap, Zahn will be playing a new ape character.

Zahn joins a cast that includes Andy Serkis as Cesar, Gabriel Chavarria and Woody Harrelson as the Colonel.

Director by Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and screenwriter Mark Bomback will both be returning for the next installment of the franchise, with Chernin Entertainment and Dylan Clark producing.

‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ is set for release in July 2017.
