Disney is planning a Mary Poppins sequel and have their eyes set on actress Emily Blunt (Into The Woods, Edge of Tomorrow, Sicario, The Devil Wears Prada). According to Variety, Blunt is in talks to play the magical nanny in Disney’s sequel to its 1964 classic.
The film will reunite Blunt with Into The Woods director Rob Marshall, and is set to direct the sequel, which “will take place in Depression-era London 20 years after the first film and will take story lines from P.L. Travers’ children books focusing on Poppins’ continued adventures with the Banks family.”
The live-action film is being written by David Magee (Finding Neverland), and will feature original songs and an all-new score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray). Marshall is producing with Marc Platt and John DeLuca.
