According to Entertainment Weekly, actor Frederick Schmidt has been cast as John Corben, a.k.a. the famous kryptonite-powered supervillain Metallo, in the upcoming second season of ‘Supergirl.’
Character description for Metallo:
When international assassin John Corben is badly injured after taking on both Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), he is reborn by a shadow organization into the Kryptonite-powered supervillain Metallo.
Metallo will make his appearance in at least two episode, starting with the season 2 premiere, airing Monday, October 10th at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
Superman’s adversary first appeared in Action Comics in 1959, but has been showcased in many iterations — all usually involving some form of Kryptonite-powered suit or cybernetic enhancements. Smallville fans may recall that Brian Austin Green took of the mantle of Metallo in season 9.

Now, in Season Two, Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO., protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.
