Director Scott Derrickson on Tilda Swinton casting controversy:

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson responded to criticism of casting of Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One.

“Looking at Marvel movies, I think that we’re missing a major character that is Tilda’s age and has this kind of strength and power,” said Derrickson during the start of the international press tour in Hong Kong. “The Ancient One in the comics is a very old American stereotype of what Eastern characters and people are like, and I felt very strongly that we need to avoid those stereotypes at all costs,” according to The Hollywood Reporter

Official Synopsis:

From Marvel comes “Doctor Strange,” the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place—a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj.
