Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson responded to criticism of casting of Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One.

“Looking at Marvel movies, I think that we’re missing a major character that is Tilda’s age and has this kind of strength and power,” said Derrickson during the start of the international press tour in Hong Kong. “The Ancient One in the comics is a very old American stereotype of what Eastern characters and people are like, and I felt very strongly that we need to avoid those stereotypes at all costs,” according to The Hollywood Reporter

He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality.
