To The Trees!! To The Trees!!

It’s the 32nd birthday of the release of one of our favorite movies!

Vivid are the memories GiGi and I have of watching this movie as children and many the conversation has been had about it over the years of our friendship, this past weekend being the the most recent, in fact!

We were having a chat about a childhood filled with VHS tapes, the wander of roaming video rental stores filled with cardboard cutouts and tangible movie posters. GiGi still has a VHS player and all her tapes…I marvel at that! Old school movie nights are our favorite and I have no doubt that one of these days we will go really old school and break out those VHSs!!

When I was young, my mother worked at a small town video rental shop and, believe it or not, I remember when she brought Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves home to us. I’ve got a big thing for cover artwork and this one was beautiful! At that time “Everything I Do, I Do it for You” was a song I fast knew well and looking at that cover quickly queues the music every time!

I’m sure those of you who are familiar with VHS remember the joys 😉 of the FF/Rewind and what a task it was to get it just right for replaying favorite scenes.

For us, there is a lot to love about this one and no doubt, after 32 years much to pick a part but that isn’t what we do here, so, we’ll stick with the love!!

(You TOTALLY have us with living in the woods, in community, helping, providing for and protecting one another.)

Alan Rickmam/Michael Wincott were a brilliant villans as the Sheriff of Nottingham/Guy of Gisbourne. Those horse chases across open English countryside are hard to forget, nor their brutality.

Kevin Costner (Robin of Locksley) and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Maid Marian) made it really easy to believe they both loved and infuriated each other!! I’m still not convinced, however, that Robin could have hit his mark with such a distraction as she provided.

Morgan Freeman’s Azeem ❤ A vow is sacred and I respect anyone that sees it through! Such a great character and let’s face it, if it stars Mr. Freeman, we are in!!!

The addition of Little John (Nick Brimble), Will Scarlet (Christian Slater), Friar Tuck (Michael McShane), Fanny (Soo Druet), Geraldine McEwan (Mortianna) and Duncan (Walter Sparrow) to the ensemble brought layers of emotion that serve the story well with pockets of anger, humor, madness, grief and humility. Each one of them have a moment I found myself rewinding to see over and over.

And

Not to be left out of the love, the 11th hour arrival of Sean Connery as King Richard! That’s one hell of wedding scene!!!

Seeeeeeee, I told you we loved it! LOL

What were some of your favorite scenes from this movie!? Let us know here or on social media!

I (CC) had the opportunity to visit Nottingham and Sherwood Forrest last December and have included that post from my personal blog as an added bonus 🙂
