Happy New Year dear readers!!!
We hope you are all doing as well as you can be and that somewhere on this new horizon of 2024, there is something bright and magical for you all ❤
GiGi and I are looking forward to another year of dreaming BIG things for WeGeekGirls. We’ve just come off of a movie night planning session and I’m pleased to say that we are revisiting some territory we’ve not been to in years AND also preparing to navigate the challenges that will come with new frontiers…and speaking of those…
IT’S OUR 10yr ANNIVERSARY on the blog!! A decade y’all!! I am massively grateful for this creative outlet and even more so for the deep friendship that started it all! (love you GiGi!)
I’ve been sitting on this post for a while and the only reason that I can give is that, as someone who is aspiring to make writing my full time career, I have gotten to know myself as one much better than I had before.
We’ve all heard that “good things take time”. I have taken some time looking back through all of my writing and even though I am proud of what has been put on page, it’s also, often, come with a lot of apology (over explaining) for the time taken.
As an empathetic and deeply feeling soul, that part of me has no choice but to inform my writing, even and perhaps especially when it comes to fandom related consumption/content creation. It’s got to feel right. Any forced timeline or unrealistic expectation stagnates me…I stop and it’s that simple.
So, I am now and forever adopting the Gandalf approach to it all and trusting that ALL posts will arrive exactly when they are meant too (thank you ahead of time for the grace) 😉
And now, the final destination of this post….
Brent Spiner and Marina Sirtis!!!

If you will remember back over the summer, to the first time in a very long time both the Writer’s AND Actor’s Guilds were on strike. As mentioned in our previous GalaxyCon posts, the attendees and featured guests were thus left to ask/answers questions unrelated to, well, just about anything, especially projects currently streaming or in production.
As we were incredibly pleased to witness, it didn’t leave anyone with nothing to say!!

Originally slotted on the panel, solo, Mr. Spiner was the first to be welcomed to the stage. You can see from the above photos that he was very moved by the audience’s response 😉
His sense of humor and sincerity remained at the forefront throughout the panel.
Brent wasn’t by himself for very long, as just a few moments after the fanfare had dulled a bit, the mention of his co-panelist and her FIERCE entrance sparked another eruption of cheers, applause and awe!
Marina Sirtis entered from side stage with gumption that would see her, passionately, through each and every question and admittedly was the attention holder of the panel as Spiner respectfully let her voice go ahead of his when the time called for it.

As it turned out, that happened often.
Straight away, Marina scolded Patty, the panel moderator, for mentioning her credits before introducing her and the small moments of awkwardness that followed that scolding (which Patty handled very well) were short lived as both panelists went on to share their thoughts on the strikes and their solidarity with their colleagues/felllow creators.
A fiery undercurrent remained in the air as Brent and Marina answered audience questions. Again, we heard about whatever projects that they were able to speak about, favorite (or not so favorite) memories and what brought them into acting. Not unlike the panelists before them, their answer was similarly that acting was what they “have to do”.
As romantic and flowery as any one of them could have made that answer, they all kept it simple. It started as something they wanted to try and became the thing they needed to do!
“You really have to want to do it, to keep doing it.”
Between sips of coffee, jokes, the recounting of Star Trek memories and a few tear filled shares, the heartbeat of the panel made the most of it’s rhythm around the hope that the very thing they wanted to do most, to be apart of storytelling via acting, would still be something that they could be invited in to, that the businesses that make those BIG decisions would remember that PEOPLE are what add the magic/life to stories and that human connection is imperative in this world.
We couldn’t agree more!!
At this time, those strikes are over and everyone involved in the telling of stories can get back to the work they love so much, the work that is such a big part of their identity and we hope there is more than enough work, for decades to come, to keep the panelists we’ve seen over the years, gainfully employed!
As for the rest of us, aspiring actors and/or otherwise, may we channel the FIRE of those things in our lives that we just “have to do”, have the courage to fight for them and to GO BOLDLY in their direction!
Live long and prosper friends!

Happy New Year and 10th blog anniversary! So great you got to see Brent Spiner and Marina Sirtis as well!
