Mad World

When I made it to the to the point where I binge watched Season 6 of Riverdale, earlier this year (never early, never late, always when I mean to 😉 ), I could hardly believe that I hadn’t come round here to talk about it before.

It took me a while to originally start it, in truth, and I don’t have a good reason save that it’s very difficult to keep up with everything (and by now nearly impossible) and I really try stick with things I enjoy so that I what I bring here can be of some kind of support for those things.

Once I did start it, I had to give myself a little kick for waiting so long, as I have enjoyed since day 1.

Jughead Jones being a writer and the narrator is my favorite aspect and even though his decisions annoyed me more than once, he remains my favorite character in the show.

I’m a big fan of the show aesthetics!! It’s mostly dark, moody and broody, the perfect atmosphere for shit going sideways and it most definitely does! I love all the layers of mystery, romance, thrill, chill, romance and SO MUCH DRAMA! I’m pretty sure that I binged every season when it dropped on Netflix so I could consume it in just a few sittings.

Now, I haven’t read a great deal of Archie Comics but I know how long they have been around and I appreciated the fact that the show merged a little vintage flair into a modern story, the classic cars and Jug’s typewriter being massive wins for me!

*************SPOILERS AHEAD****************

Season 6 managed to bring aspects of all past seasons into it’s adrenaline pumping arcs and I was originally salivating to get on here and talk about the The Jughead Paradox. The sudden jump to Rivervale and it’s brilliant blend of momentary confusion? All of the main characters developing super powers that have to work together to be completely useful!? Imagine having to, after all the starts/stops, having to actually work together!!! LOL

*As an empathetic person and energy worker by day, Betty’s power development peaked my interest the most, especially the ability to change what she saw within herself! POWERFUL!

And speaking of powerful, my ideas for gushing about all of those other things paled in comparison to the song they chose to bring into the last few minutes of the season finale.

Using a song like The End of the World, to me, was really poetic given everything our characters had faced up to that point. Tears filled my eyes as the silence around the impending comet crash loomed in the air and the scenes panned to each one of the stories and asked the questions contained in the lyrics. Again, powerful!

Breathe the air again, it’s a beautiful day
I wish this moment would stay with the Earth
Some primal paradise
But there you go again, saying everything ends
Saying you can’t depend on anything, or anyone

If the end of the world was near
Where would you choose to be?
If there was five more minutes of air
Would you panic and hide
Or run for your life
Or stand here and spend it with me
If we had five more minutes
Would I, could I, make you happy?

And we would live again
In the simplest of ways
Living day after day
Like some primal animals
We would love again
Under glorious suns
With the freedom that comes with the truth, mmm

If the end of the world was near
Where would you choose to be?
If there was five more minutes of air
Would you panic and hide?
Or run for your life?
Or stand here and spend it with me?
If we had five more minutes
Would I, could I, make you happy?

So it finally came to pass
I saw the end of the world
Saw the madness unfold like
Some primal burial
And I looked back upon
Armageddon
And the moment of truth
Between you and me

If we had five more minutes of air to breathe
And we cried all through it
But you spent them with me
On our last few drags of air we agreed
I was and you were happy

The world is no less mad than when this all started and I’m betting it gets even madder in the final season but I really enjoyed the sobering last moments of S6 and the real to life reflection it invited.

Season 7 lands today on the CW and I look forward to re-entering Riverdale again, very soon!
